Grealish "has got to leave Aston Villa" as Man Utd plot transfer move

Former Aston Villa favourite Darius Vassell says it is just a matter of time before Jack Grealish ends up leaving the Midlanders, as Manchester United monitor his situation.

Villa skipper Grealish is dedicated to trying to help his boyhood club avoid relegation this season, with Dean Smith’s side spending football’s current hiatus in the bottom three.

But whatever happens to Villa he is then expected to move on for pastures new in the summer, leaving his boyhood club behind in order to try and further his career and earn a place in the England squad.

And Vassell says he would understand if Grealish left the club.

“I always get asked about Jack Grealish’s situation. I want him to stay through supporting Villa – he’s one of our own,” he told Stadium Astro, via the Mail Online.

“But he’s so good now, where could he end up if he went to a better team with better players? Is it right to hold him back?”

Vassell also cited two examples of players who have left Villa for Manchester in the past.

“If you look at history, you’ve got Gareth Barry and James Milner who left for City. Top quality players went on to bigger and better things,” he added.

“I don’t like saying it but he’s got to go at some point. Unless Villa get new owners and are buying the best players, go and get the most for your career.

“I don’t think Villa fans would blame him – he’s played his heart out and done brilliantly. At the end of the day, I wouldn’t be surprised.”
