The punk rock band FIDLAR was performing in Berkeley earlier this week when a fan jumped onstage and attempted to take a selfie with frontman Zac Carper. Carper would have none of it, and he proceeded to slap the phone out of the woman’s hand.

Back in 2015, FIDLAR actually tweeted a warning of this very thing.

“I have no problem breaking your iPhone 6 if you jump on stage and take a selfie while we are playing,” the Tweet, presumably written by Carper, reads. “Please, give me something to break.”

The band has developed a reputation for taking this type of stance against fans who invade the stage, and this week that exact scenario was caught on camera.

Here’s a short clip posted to FIDLAR’s Instagram that shows Carper slapping the fan’s phone:

The incident was also captured from a fan’s perspective (apologies for the strong language):

After the stage clip above went viral on Reddit, Carper took to the comments to explain.

“This kind of stuff happens to us all the time,” the frontman writes. “We encourage stage diving and moshing and all that good stuff. BUT this is where I draw the line. No selfies WHILE I’m performing. Sorry brah. A big ole nope to that. I kindly pushed her out of the way the first time to let her know I am not down, so my instinctive reaction was to get that phone out of my face.

“It’s all good tho. She laughed and she actually got her phone back after the show. not broken or anything. Boom.”

Singer Rob Halford of the band Judas Priest caused a stir just days ago after he was filmed kicking the phone out of the hand of a concertgoer in the front row.
