Former Liverpool and Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez has unveiled a striking new look – and it’s fair to say the forward’s makeover has taken fans by surprise.

Suarez completed a high-profile move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami for the 2024 MLS season and the 37-year-old has enjoyed a spectacular start to life in the States.

In his first 18 starts in MLS, Suarez has racked up 17 goals and six assists, with Eastern Conference pace-setters Inter Miami – also boasting a certain Lionel Messi – firing on all cylinders.

Suarez, who recently announced his retirement from international football, will hope to continue his goalscoring heroics this weekend when the Herons do battle with Charlotte FC at Florida’s Chase Stadium.

While Suarez’s hair has remained largely the same throughout his 20-year career at the top, he clearly decided it was time for a change ahead of Inter Miami’s upcoming match – opting for a platinum-blond look.

Suarez’s wife Sofia Balbi, who he met at the age of just 13, shared a photograph of the veteran striker’s new look on her Instagram page along with three love heart emojis.

Messi made the same move at the start of the 2016/17 season, shocking Barcelona fans with a bleach-blond trim.

Perhaps the Argentine magician had something to do with Suarez’s drastic new look…

‘One particularly tough day I decided to dye my hair,’ Messi told Argentine outlet Telefe of his makeover at the time.

‘I had to start again from scratch.

‘I said to myself, “I have to make a clean break and start over”.’

Neymar also went blond that season at Barcelona and later revealed how Suarez had refused to follow the trend.

‘Messi and I tried to convince Luis Suarez to dye his hair blonde, but he didn’t want to do it,’ the Brazilian said at the time.

‘It was a promise I made my friends.

‘I said I would dye my hair blond if I won the gold medal at the Olympic Games.’

On his arrival in the States, Suarez vowed to do everything in his power to ‘bring joy’ to Inter Miami supporters.

‘I’m optimistic about what we can achieve together with our shared ambition,’ he said.

‘I will give my all to bring joy to these great fans I’ve heard so much about while I wear Inter Miami colours.’
