Every Video Game Release Date (October 2024) – Screen Rant

October 2024 is shaping up to be a massive month for gaming, with huge horror titles like the Silent Hill 2 remake rubbing elbows with major RPG releases like Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Although it’s traditionally associated with major horror releases just in time for the spooky season, there’s truly something for everyone this October.

Whether they prefer cozy indie games or epic AAA action, on PC, console, or Switch, every player should have something to be excited about this fall. To kick the season off, here’s every major game release scheduled for October 2024.

October 2024 Is Packed Full Of Horror Releases

Silent Hill 2 Remake, Alan Wake 2 DLC, A Quiet Place, & More

It’s no surprise to see a slew of horror games to be released in any given October, but October 2024 is stacked with massive horror releases in a way unlike any other year in recent memory. Between re-releases of classics, new installments in beloved series, and bold, new, unknown horrors, there’s plenty to be terrified of this October.

Let’s start with one of the year’s biggest (and Oxtobeer’s earliest) video game releases: the Silent Hill 2 remake. Silent Hill 2 will retell one of the most iconic ghost stories in gaming: the descent of James Sunderland into the foggy, forgotten town of Silent Hill, as he attempts to understand the source of a mysterious letter from his late wife. The Silent Hill 2 remake has met with seemingly infinite controversy during its development, as is fairly common whenever such a beloved game is slated for remake. All those fears will come to pass soon, though, with Silent Hill 2 due out on October 8.

The Until Dawn remake comes out just a few days before, on October 4. The first interactive horror effort by Supermassive Games, now better known for its Dark Pictures Anthology, Until Dawn features many of the developer’s hallmarks: a terrifying story, meaningful choices, and an all-star cast. Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, and Jordan Fisher play a group of teenagers who visit an isolated cabin in the middle of the woods, where a grisly murder took place exactly a year before – anyone can probably guess what comes next.

The same day as Silent Hill 2‘s release, on October 8, Alan Wake 2 will also get its second DLC: Lake House. Far from the “what-if” standalone stories of Night Springs, Lake House is expected to connect more directly to the main storyline of the Alan Wake series. It’s also expected to explore the connections between Alan Wake and Remedy Entertainment’s other major surreal horror output, Control.

head writer Sam Lake, who also lent his face to the character of Alex Casey.

Next up is A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, a horror game set amid the film series of the same name. Featuring unique stealth mechanics based on the monsters’ sound-sensing abilities, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is a new twist on survival horror for fans of the film series old and new alike. It’s scheduled for release on October 17.

Later in the month, on October 22, comes No More Room in Hell 2, a co-op zombie game. Predator: Hunting Grounds, an asymmetrical survival game featuring aliens from the titular film franchise, will be released on October 1.

October 2024 Is Also A Big Month For Movie, TV, & Sports Tie-Ins

Patrick Star, Terminator: Survivors, Dragon Ball, & NHL

October 2024 will also see several tie-in games from big-name movie, TV, and sports franchises, beginning with NHL 25 on October 4. Coming out just in time for the actual NHL season, this latest installment promises increased realism both on and off the ice, with the new ICE-Q system for player AI. On the same day, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game will see a release. This is a colorful platformer very much like Battle for Bikini Bottom, just with a greater focus on Patrick. It’s being released to coincide with the series’ 25th anniversary this year.

Next up is Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero on October 11. This is the fourth game in the Budokai Tenkaichi series of fighting games set in the Dragon Ball universe. It’ll be followed on October 18 by another animated series adaptation: the beat-em-up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed. A week later, the open-world survival game Terminator: Survivors comes out on October 24. The VR game Batman: Arkham Shadow is also expected to be released in October, but doesn’t have an exact date yet.

Tons Of New & Classic RPGs Are Coming Out In October 2024

Dragon Age, Romancing SaGa 2, Metaphor: ReFantazio, & More

October 2024 is also a great month for RPGs of every type, beginning with the Vessel of Hatred season for Diablo 4. Speaking of online RPGs, two of Amazon Games’ major MMO efforts will see new releases in October: New World‘s Aeturnum expansion on October 15, and the release of Throne and Liberty on October 1.

As for strictly single-player RPGs, October’s biggest release is likely Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the latest in a long line of fantasy RPGs by BioWare. Known for their customizable characters, variant stories, and character romances, Dragon Age has since become a major name in the RPG space. Veilguard will be its first release in a decade, since 2014’s Inquisition. It’ll be the month’s last major release on October 31.

And as for new properties, Persona series director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro will be collaborating on a new fantasy RPG due out on October 11, 2024 – Metaphor: ReFantazio. Featuring a new take on the classic Press-Turn system of combat introduced by the Shin Megami Tensei series, Metaphor: ReFantazio promises refreshing new concepts in a familiar style.

Fans of old-school RPGs can expect a pair of major releases from classic series in October 2024. First, on October 24, there’s Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, a complete remake of the original Romancing SaGa 2. A day later, there’s Ys X: Nordics, the next installment in the trailblazing Ys series, on October 25.
