There have been plenty of love affairs on screen in EastEnders with Walford proving a place where love is in the air.
Sadly, most of these couplings are a work of fiction, as characters fall in and out of love with each other, no matter how surprising the pair.
But Albert Square has also been the scene of some real-life, off-screen love affairs – here are the cast members who have found each other, even for the most brief of romances.
Kara Tointon and Joe Swash
Before finding true love with Stacey Solomon, Joe Swash had a romantic dalliance with his on-screen sibling, Kara Tointon.
They dated for two years, between 2008 and 2010 but it wasn’t to last.
Kara found Marius Jensen and the engaged couple have recently welcomed their first child.
Joe went Down Under to the jungle for I’m A Celebrity and found his future love, Stacey, who is pregnant with their first child together.

Lucy Benjamin and Steve McFadden
From on-screen lovers Lisa Fowler and Phil Mitchell, to off-screen real-life couple, Steve McFadden and Lucy Benjamin made a go of it for over four years.
It all ended a little messily though, with Steve accusing Lucy of leaking stories to the press.

Shona McGarty and Matt Lapinskas
Shona and Matt met on set when playing Whitney Carter and Anthony Moon and in 2011 decided to give it a go off set, too.
They romanced for 18 months until Matt quit the soap and with it, their time together was up in real life as well.

Jacqueline Jossa and Tony Discipline
Jacqueline Jossa enjoyed an 18-month relationship with co-star Tony Discipline after meeting in 2011.
Before Jossa met her husband-to-be Dan Osborne , her dalliance with Discipline ended amicably, after he decided to leave Albert Square for good.

Amy-Leigh Hickman and Shaheen Jafargholi
Among the myriad of love affairs on and off the screen, there had to be one that sticks and co-stars Amy-Ligh Hickman and Shaheen Jafargholi have been together since meeting in 2016.
They are getting stronger too as Shaheen hailed Amy-Leigh as one of his “fave women in the world” on International Women’s Day.
It must be love.
