DVLA issues crucial '10 year warning’ to affect all road users in UK

The DVLA wrote: “10 years can fly by when you’re having fun!

“Remember to renew your driving licence every 10 years, then the journey can go on! This pit stop is quick and easy.”

Officials have previously said that licences must be renewed every 10 years to ensure the photograph is kept up-to-date.

The DVLA warned that “appearances can change” with photos crucial for law enforcement to tell if the right driver is using the correct licence.

Meanwhile, securing a new licence will ensure the cards contain the latest security features to protect individuals against fraud.

An up-to-date licence may also make it easier for motorists to secure a hire car at home or in a different country.

Officials have previously warned that failing to renew a licence and supplying a photo considered to be a true likeness is against the law.

Motorists could be issued penalties of up to a £1,000 fine in a major blow for cash-strapped road users.

Drivers can secure their new licence online after paying the £14 renewal fee in minutes with photocards usually received within one week.

Individuals can get their new card by post but road users will be liable to pay the higher £17 charge.

The DVLA previously added: “If you’re due to renew your driving licence, did you know our online service is the easiest, quickest and most convenient way to do it?

“You must renew your photocard licence every 10 years, so why not join the 2 million customers who chose to use our online service this year?”
