Today, Funcom announced its post-launch plans for its upcoming open-world MMO survival game Dune: Awakening. Based on the Dune novels and movies from the mind of Frank Herbert, the game is set to launch for PC on May 20.
What are the post-launch plans for Dune: Awakening
In a recent video and blog post from Dune: Awakening Creative Director Joel Bylos, the developer revealed what is in store for players once the game launches in May. Additionally, Bylos clears the air on the game’s business model, specifically in regards to a potential Early Access period and subscription.
Bylos does confirm that Dune: Awakening’s May 20 launch will be the full release, not an Early Access version of the game. Additionally, he clarified that a subscription is not required to play the upcoming MMO. After its launch, Funcom plans to expand the game with free updates that include new content, features, and enhancements. There will be “optional DLC” available to buy either through the Season Pass or a la carte. Bylos did not specify how this DLC would expand the game.
Funcom also revealed new system requirements for Dune: Awakening. Here are both the minimum and recommended specs needed to play the MMO:

- Processor: Intel Core i5-7400, AMD Ryzen 3 1200
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB), AMD Radeon 5600XT (6GB)
- Storage: 60 GB available space

- Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K, AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
- Memory: 16 GB RAM

Dune: Awakening is available to preorder right now for $49.99. The Deluxe Edition includes the Season Pass, Sardaukar Bator Armor, and 5-day head start beginning on May 15 for $69.99. The Ultimate Edition includes everything from the Deluxe Edition plus the Dusk Rider Sandbike Swatch, Blue Dasher Ornithopter Swatch, Caladan Palace Building Set, Dune 2021 Film Stillsuit, Digital Artbook, and Digital Soundtrack for $89.99.
