Dog nutritionist recommends adding one herb into pet's diet to boost health

A certified dog nutritionist has revealed a surprising supermarket staple that could help “heal” your pet from various health issues.

Cameron Wimble, who regularly imparts wisdom on canine health via TikTok, shared in his latest video how everyday herbs can be advantageous for dogs. “Herbs have so many healing qualities for dogs,” he wrote alongside his clip.

“This is your sign to do some research, check out what each of them do, and start adding them to your dog’s bowl.” In the clip shot at a supermarket, he elaborated: “Herbs can heal your dog – take oregano, it’s full of antioxidants, antimicrobial and a natural anti-inflammatory.”

He advised that if your dog is battling immune-related ailments such as UTIs, yeast infections, or ear problems, “you need to be sprinkling herbs like oregano on their food.”

Cameron went on to say there are “so many other” herbs that can help too. He encouraged: “Just do a little research into an individual herb and the health issue your dog has. Match them up and use it. It can heal your dog.”

Regarding the safety of oregano for dogs, while some TikTok users expressed concerns, Dog Time confirms: “Dogs can eat oregano. While some herbs might not be suitable for dogs, oregano is safe to give to your furry friend.

“Oregano contains anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties. It can often be used to help alleviate canine colds and bouts of bloating. Just make sure to serve oregano to your dog in moderation and usually as an addition to existing meals.”

The website further recommends: “It’s worth noting that, while oregano can be a beneficial addition to a dog’s diet, many canines are somewhat put off by the strong smell of oregano. So it’s usually best to chop up fresh oregano into very small pieces and mix it in with an existing meal. You can also safely use dried oregano the same way.

“In general, it’s best to feed your dog a small amount of oregano rather than letting them chomp down on an entire oregano plant. Adding chopped oregano to homemade dog treats can be a great way to introduce the herb into your pooch’s diet.”

If you have any concerns about your pet’s health, it’s important to contact your vet for professional advice. They will be able to give bespoke advice about your dog’s diet and should also recommend a course of action to take.

Some herbs can be toxic to dogs – especially if consumed in large quantities. Keep this in mind before making any changes to your pet’s diet.
