Couple who struggled to conceive defy fertility odds with miracle quadruplets who all arrived within four minutes

A COUPLE who defied fertility odds are celebrating the births of their miracle quadruplets — who all arrived within four minutes of one another.

Ciara Flynn and Shane Magee welcomed three girls and a boy into the world at Coombe Hospital, Dublin, on August 23 between 9.19am and 9.23am.

Johnny, Layla, Grace and Amelia were born by C-section at just 30 weeks and five days and are now being cared for in the hospital’s neo-natal intensive care unit.

Ciara, 34, who conceived with the help of hormone injections, told Fabulous Digital how the four were already developing their own personalities.

Ciara previously told how she opted for the follicle stimulating hormone injections as a “last option” before looking into IVF, after being diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome as a teen.

Now Ciara, from Co Laois, said her life had suddenly become very “hectic”.

Describing her children’s characters, she said: “Johnny gets annoyed if I move him but loves cuddles and touches and settles quickly once this begins.”

Meanwhile little Amelia is the strongest.

“She is a little gymnast, she sticks her bottom in the air and fully extends the legs,” her proud mum said.

“Layla is vocal.

She loves moving up and down her bed and when she hears you she wants to hold your finger.

“And Grace is the most relaxed of them all.

The quads also love listening to their dad sing.

“He used to sing to my belly when they were still all snuggled up inside so they all react to his voice,” their mum explained.

An astonishing 40 people helped deliver the four.

“I remember being wheeled into the theatre thinking it was massive,” Ciara said.

“They needed a set of teams for each baby.

All the nurses and doctors were absolutely amazing, we really can’t thank them enough

They all made me feel so comfortable and chatted to me while getting me ready.”

Ciara said the babies being delivered was the “most amazing experience of her life”.

“I don’t even know where to begin,” she said.

“Each time they delivered a baby they would show us. The babies all cried the minute they came out.

“It was sweetest sound we ever heard. I felt like Mary Poppins’ handbag, all these babies kept being pulled out.

“We both cried it was so amazing and overwhelming, we will never forget it.”

“I remember looking at Shane’s face and the love in his eyes was like nothing I’d ever seen before.”

Ciara said the new father chose the miracle tots’ names after plenty of research.

She said: “Shane chose all the names after a lot of research on meanings and origins, which I loved him doing.

“It was so heart-warming for me to see his efforts. Johnny was named after Shane’s late father.”

The parents feel “very lucky” and can’t wait to bring their children home

She told us: “All the doctors and nurses are amazed at how far we managed to get in the pregnancy, nearly 31 weeks. They are even more impressed with how big and strong these little miracles are that Shane and I have made.

“We really are so blessed and lucky and we say that everyday.

“We still can’t believe it even though they are right in front of us — our four little miracles.”

Meanwhile, this mum went onto have ‘just one more’ – and had quintuplets (you should see the amount of milk she gets through)

And these amazing babies were born four months early.
