Corrie Rowan's 'new recruit' confirmed as beloved resident joins Institute

A beloved Coronation Street will be joining the mysterious Institute next week.

Recently, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) has been lured into a cult by sinister Rowan Cunliffe (Emhrys Cooper). Fiancee Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and sister Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor) have all shared their concerns over Leanne.

But much to their dismay, the Institute has a hold over Leanne – despite the cult ruining sister Toyah’s life recently. Earlier this year it was revealed that Toyah had a baby when she was just 19-years-old.

Sadly, the child was still-born and Toyah buried the body on the red rec. Toyah confessed to Leanne and Nick – but was arrested after someone tipped her off to the police and they discovered the baby, Rose’s remains.

Toyah was ultimately released and not charged – but it was pretty clear who made the phone call to the cops: Rowan. As well as that, Toyah has also been hiding her secret affair with Nick from her sister.

And over in the soap soon, things take a dramatic turn when a cobbles resident joins the Institute. This week on the soap, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) reveals how stressed she is over her busy schedule working at a radio station.

In a bid to try and destress her, Leanne shows her an Institute video. Toyah is disturbed after seeing Amy watch the video – and the young adult shocks her more when she shares how she’s considering investing in The Institute.

And next week, it appears Amy has well and truly lured in by the Institute. During Monday’s episode (July 8) Leanne tells Nick she is going to spend the day looking after Toyah following her hospital visit this week.

However, Rowan calls her up and asks her to attend the taster session for new recruits – in which Toyah offers to go with her. But as they arrive at the Chariot Square Hotel for the new recruits session, Leanne is delighted to see Amy amongst the attendees.

Will Amy be manipulated like Leanne or will she see through Rowan’s evil ways?

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
