Corbynista ditches bid to deselect heavily-pregnant Labour MP for demanding Chris Williamson is kicked out the party

A CORBYNISTA has ditched their bid to deselect a pregnant Labour MP after a furious backlash.

Ellie Reeves, who is 22 weeks pregnant, was facing a motion of no confidence for demanding anti-Semitism row MP Chris Williamson is kicked out the party.

The move sparked uproar, with Tom Watson warning that MPs will not put up with “bullying and threats”.

Jeremy Corbyn condemned the move – two days after Ms Reeves first contacted his office begging him for help.

Ms Reeves told the PoliticsHome website: “I was really pleased to receive a message this morning saying the leader has stated he does not support the no confidence vote.

“This was the support I was hoping for when I contacted them about it on Monday.”

The threat had sparked absolute fury among Labour moderates, who had demanded pregnant MPs are protected from leftie bids to purge them.

Caving to pressure, Mr Corbyn wrote to MPs to say pregnant women will escape the reselection process until they come back from maternity leave.

A Labour spokesman said: “In 2017 because of the snap general election the normal process of trigger ballots and reselection that takes place within the Labour and has done for a long time between elections, that was not possible. And so the NEC played that role.

“So, we are now starting the process of trigger ballots and reselections and that process will go on as quickly as possible.

“But in the case of pregnant women that would not take place.”
