Gogglebox fans were left seriously unimpressed just minutes into the new series as they claimed the celebrity format was a “forced version” of the Channel 4 show
Celebrity Gogglebox has been flooded with complaints after just one episode.
The Channel 4 smash hit usually features our favourite households and pals giving their verdict on the hottest telly of the week.
On Friday (June 6) the star-studded version waltzed back onto our screens, showcasing a glittery line-up of new celeb watchers diving into the telly we all chat about.
Nick Grimshaw and his niece Liz were back on the sofa alongside show regulars Rylan Clark with his mum Linda, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Adding to the mix, fresh faces including small screen firecracker Vicky Pattison and TOWIE heartthrob Pete Wicks rocked up for a natter too as well as Paddy McGuinness and Vernon Kay.
The armchair critics tuned into Race Across the World, Faking It, Celebrity Bridge of Lies, Silence Is Golden, Big Zuu’s and AJ Tracey’s Rich Flavours, Canal Boat Diaries, and even ITV News covering Trump and Musk capers.
But viewers didn’t hold back on their verdicts on the celeb edition, with some suggesting that the whole show felt “forced”.
One viewer on X, once known as Twitter, moaned: “Not the dreaded celebrities again, so many of them are so annoying #Celebritygogglebox.”
Another vented: “We watch normal #Gogglebox because it’s hilarious and we love all the families. #celebritygogglebox is not funny and we couldn’t care less about the celebs. It’s just people watching telly.”
A third shared their two pence, saying: “Celebrity Gogglebox just isn’t funny like the original, it feels forced! #gogglebox #Celebritygogglebox.”
Yet, not everyone was against the concept as one enthusiast tweeted: “#Celebritygogglebox #Gogglebox 1st minute and we see Alex Scott and Jess Glynn. I’m already into this series, I hope we get to see the Eubanks too, TV gold are Chris and Junior.”
This comes hot on the heels of Rylan spilling the beans about his mum’s telly prospects after fans have been begging for the mother-son pair to snag their own show.
Chatting with the Daily Star, he dished out: “We’ve been offered hundreds of things. We got asked to do a travel show and the chance to go here and go there.
“It would be hilarious, but she’s just not well enough to do it. Gogglebox is enough for us. She feels comfortable doing that show because we’re just sat in my kitchen.”
