Carol Vorderman's son makes cheeky maths swipe as she breaks TV quiz show rule

Carol Vorderman’s son Cameron couldn’t help but take a playful jab at his mum’s maths skills during the debut episode of Romesh Ranganathan’s new quiz show, Parents’ Evening.

The new quiz show sees celebrities join forces with their relatives as they have to guess how many general knowledge questions their grown-up children or parent will get right in order to win money for charity. The gameshow is overseen by Romesh’s, 46, mother Shanthi.

Saturday’s line-up saw Carol, 63, and her son Cameron, Alison Hammond alongside her son Aidan, and Iain Stirling accompanied by his mother Alison, leading the stars.

One of the questions on Saturday night was to list relationship statuses according to Facebook. However, Carol was baffled by the question saying: “Well, I don’t do Facebook. I mean, how many relationship statuses can you actually have, you’ve got married, single” to which an alarm suddenly blared in the studio and a red light flashed on screen.

Host Romesh quickly interjected: “Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, okay. Carol, the point of the game is not to suddenly start shouting out the answers”, reports the Mirror.

“Carol, I’m very sorry but we are having to deduct £200 from your total and we are removing those answers from the round.”

A confused Carol responded: “You’re deducting money!” to which Alison clarified: “Yeah, £200!” prompting Carol to quip: “We won’t have any left!”.

Carol’s son, Cameron, was quick to take a cheeky swipe at his maths expert mother as he quipped: “Yeah mum, that’s how numbers work!” to which Romesh put his hand over his own mouth as the audience started laughing.

Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to react to the moment as one person said: “I like Carol Vorderman’s son. He’s got a great sense of humour. #ParentsEvening”, a different account wrote: “NOOOOOO. Carol, what are you doing??? #ParentsEvening” while a different viewer added: “I’m really liking Romesh Ranganathan’s #ParentsEvening he’s so funny.”

It comes as Vanessa Feltz is to take over Carol’s Sunday slot on LBC on a permanent basis. Former Countdown star Carol said she would not continue with her radio show last month after suffering “burnout” from seven-day working weeks.

Vanessa, 62, joined LBC in May and presents a Saturday afternoon show where she offers opinion, analysis and a deep dive on what matters to the British public.

She said: “I can’t wait to be a weekend appointment to listen to. I’m looking forward to holding Britain’s biggest and most spirited conversation with my lovely LBC listeners every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.”

Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening continues on Saturday nights on ITV and ITV X.
