Armie Hammer has revealed that he is being forced to sell his beloved pickup truck, admitting that he ‘can’t afford the gas’ to keep it running.

The 38-year-old made the surprising admission in a video posted to his Instagram account on August 27, where he shared that he’s starting a brand new life, including buying a new car.

Hammer, who has been largely out of the public eye since 2022, shared that he will be switching to a more economical ‘tiny’ hybrid vehicle.

‘I’m selling my truck,’ Hammer said in the video. ‘Since being back in LA, I have put about $400 or $500 (£302 or £378) worth of gas in it and I can’t afford it. I can’t afford the gas anymore.’

Hammer decided to sell the vehicle despite its significant sentimental value.

He reminisced about how he and his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers, used the truck to bring their children, Harper, 9, and Ford, 7, home from the hospital when they were born.

‘This truck, it took the kids home from the hospital and all that stuff,’ he recalled. ‘But you know what, that’s okay.’

Despite the emotional attachment, Hammer revealed that he’s giving it up for a smaller option. ‘I’ve got a new car,’ he said. ‘It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’m probably going to put about 10 bucks of gas in it a month.’

Hammer’s decision to downsize comes in the wake of a series of scandals that have drastically altered his life.

In July 2020, Hammer’s divorced from his wife Elizabeth Chambers after 10 years, filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.

Hammer was then accused of rape, emotional abuse, and violence by multiple women in 2021, which he denied.

The accusations, which Hammer has vehemently denied, claiming all encounters were consensual, led to a fast fall from grace in the public eye. The actor was dropped by his talent agency and lost several major film opportunities.

The actor has not announced any new film projects in recent years, and it is unclear if or when he will attempt to return to the entertainment industry.

Hammer has previously said that he’s actually grateful for the scandals. The actor told Tyler Ramsey on the Painful Lessons podcast: ‘I’m actually at a place where I’m really grateful for it because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me, I didn’t feel good. I never felt satisfied. I never had enough.

‘I was never in a place where  I was happy with myself, where I had self-esteem. I never knew how to give myself love, I never knew how to give myself validation.

‘But I had this job where I was able to get it from so many people that I never needed to learn how to give it to myself.’
