BBC Strictly judges support Giovanni Pernice as he launches new project amid Amanda 'row'

Giovanni Pernice has been supported by the Strictly Come Dancing judges as he launched a new perfume following backlash he’s received recently. The 33-year-old took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal the news of his perfume with his one million followers.

Alongside a steamy promotional image of him with a model in a pool, he wrote: “My fragrance VITA (Italian for life) is just that, a celebration of life. Of positivity when there is obviously so much around us which can be a cause for the opposite.

“We are starting this journey with high hopes and ambitions, and with many more products in the pipeline.” Strictly judges Motsi Mabuse and Anton du Beke notably both liked the Instagram post as they showed support for the professional dancer.

Giovanni’s fans also believed his comments were alluding to the negativity surrounding him as of late. One loyal fan commented: “We love you gio… You got the support of your fans trust me you do. Ignore the background negativity. Your a star. And well done on this fragrance.” (sic)

Another person said: “Mum and I chatted about you today and are completely in your corner. Hold your head high always. You have an army of fans who believe in YOU and who know that will pass.”

While a third added: “All the support to you Gio. don’t let the haters get you down.”

It was reported that Amanda Abbington requested footage from her backstage rehearsals while she was on Strictly Come Dancing following legal advice.

She dramatically exited the competition last year for “personal reasons”, leaving partner Giovanni out of the show too.

The Sherlock star shared a statement on social media about her exit, but failed to mention her dance partner in her leaving speech.

A source told The Sun: “The BBC has received a request for the footage they hold of Amanda and Giovanni. It is known as a data subject access request.

“There is a feeling that the recordings will lift the lid on what really goes on behind the scenes on Strictly. Things in rehearsals can become very tense.”
