Bargain Hunt has been hit with tragic news as a star of the show has died after appearing in a recent episode of the hit antiques programme. The BBC has paid tribute
BBC bosses have confirmed the devastating news that a Bargain Hunt expert has passed away shortly after filming a recent episode of the popular show.
The episode in question, which was set in Shepton Mallet and aired on Friday, March 21, featured presenter Tim Weeks alongside antiques expert Stuart Withers.
In a heart-wrenching tweet, the programme’s official social media account shared the tragic news of Stuart’s passing after filming, saying: “Following the filming of today’s episode in Shepton Mallet, antiques seller Stuart Withers very sadly passed away. We send our sincerest sympathies and condolences to Mr Withers’ family and friends.”
Fans of the show were quick to express their sorrow at the news, with one viewer commenting: “So very sad just watched this episode now, offering my condolences.”
The announcement was met with an outpouring of emotional tributes, including hearts and angel wings. This latest tragedy comes after news broke of the untimely death of Flog It!
antiques specialist Michael Baggott, who suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 51, reports the Mirror.
Although he passed away in October 2024, the news of his death was only made public in January 2025.
Paying tribute to Michael, Rob Unsworth, head of daytime at the BBC, described him as “one of Flog It’s most memorable characters, expert in all manner of collectables”.
Colleague Nick Hall remembered Michael fondly, saying: “A true connoisseur and ambassador of the antiques world. A font of knowledge and generous with his knowledge, a raconteur and all round top bloke, a pleasure to have known you Michael.”
In a poignant revelation in 2023, it was sadly announced that a participant on Bargain Hunt had passed away before his episode aired on television.
Contestant David, who appeared on the show with his daughter Vicky, was remembered warmly by experts Izzie Balmer and Nick Hall, who paid touching tributes to him after his death.
The official Bargain Hunt account shared the sad news: “Since today’s episode of Bargain Hunt was filmed, David has sadly passed away. We send our sincere condolences to his daughter and teammate Vicky, his wife Joyce and all his family and friends.”
Izzie Balmer expressed her fond memories of David, stating: “David, you were a lovely kind, caring and friendly person, with a great sense of humour and a true Gent. I loved filming with you and Vicky, you were both great fun and I hold fond memories of our time together. Sending my condolences to you Vicky and to your family, lots of love.”
