A serious alert has been sounded concerning a certain Asda product, amid fears it may pose a considerable danger to babies. The high street giant is pulling its £15 merchandise from shelves and is appealing to buyers to bring the item back to their closest store for an entire refund, which won’t necessitate a receipt.
The product causing alarm is Asda’s ‘Little Angels 1 Tog Apple Sleeping Bag’, decked out in an adorable fruit motif, designed for little tots. The supermarket chain has clarified that the item is devoid of crucial safety instructions, while adding: “There is a potential risk of a child overheating, should the user be unaware of the suitability or usage for their circumstances.”
To determine if your purchase tallies with the affected items, Asda proposes examining the swing tag for this designation: ’05-02-24′. Moreover, you should verify the barcode, which ought to display: ‘0-6m 5059198048511, 6-12m 5059198048573, 12-18m 5059198048535, 18-24m 5059198048559’.
Last Friday, the Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards weighed in on this recall, suggesting the product also doesn’t meet standards set out in law. “Some safety instructions are missing and therefore the user is unable to ensure the child is safe whilst in use, presenting a risk of overheating,” it said.
“This product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.”
However, Asda’s fruity baby sleeping bag isn’t the only product currently under recall. In July, the supermarket issued warnings about a ‘Boys Octopus Rash Vest and Short Green & Blue’, stating it failed to meet their ‘sun safe requirement’.
In addition, allergen alerts were raised for Asda’s own 150g bags of ‘Extra Special Sea Salt & Chardonnay Wine Vinegar Hand Cooked Crisps’. The packs contain milk, which is not mentioned on the label. This only applies to products with a best before date code of Sep 21, 2024, and a barcode of ‘5057172821273’.
