It was a night to forget for Arsenal in France.
The Gunners went down 3-1 to Rennes in their Europa League last-16 tie to leave their hopes of reaching the last eight in tatters.
Things had looked to be rosy for the Gunners when Alex Iwobi’s low shot put them ahead after just three minutes, but they they ended up collapsing after a Sokratis Papastathopoulos red card before half-time.
Benjamin Bourigeaud blasted in a free-kick at the second attempt to level the scores, and then Nacho Monreal put through his own net to give Rennes the lead for the first time on the night.

That wasn’t the last of Monreal’s struggles either, as the Spaniard gave the ball away in the build-up to Rennes’ third goal, which was scored by Ismaila Sarr.
And Gunners fans couldn’t help but notice when Monreal after that loss of possession.

While some were drawn to Matteo Guendouzi’s rather slow attempts at tracking back, the young Frenchman was only doing that because Monreal was caught further upfield.
The Spanish international had lost the ball and reacted by petulantly throwing his arms into the air and turning away.

Fans weren’t happy with the left-back, and hit out at him online, with some saying his actions were ‘unforgivable’ as they lashed out.
The second leg takes place at the Emirates next Thursday.
