Arsenal are in the race alongside Chelsea and Manchester United to sign Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel, according to reports in Germany.
Chelsea made an approach for Tel earlier this month but the 19-year-old was keen to remain at Bayern.
However, the French midfielder has now changed his stance due to his lack of playing time under Vincent Kompany.
So far this season, Tel has featured in just 12 of Bayern’s matches in all competitions and has started only two games in the Bundesliga.
According to TZ, Arsenal were interested in signing Tel even before his €28.5 million (£24.4m) move from Rennes in July 2022.
The report claims that Arsenal have retained their interest in Tel since he joined Bayern and remain in the market to bolster Mikel Arteta’s attacking options before the end of the January transfer window.
It’s also claimed that Chelsea are not regarded as an option for Tel this month.
Despite his lack of minutes on the pitch, Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, insisted earlier this month that the club were still backing Tel to make his breakthrough in the Bundesliga.
‘He is a very important player for us and we are in very good contact because he’s a great talent and should play an important role for us,’ Freund said.
‘We have had many discussions. Our clear goal is for Mathys to make his breakthrough with us.
‘We are very happy with our squad when it comes to both quality and quantity.
‘Of course, if a player is unhappy, we can talk about it. But our clear plan with Mathys is for him to make his breakthrough here.’
