An ambulance has been seen taking the body of former One Direction star Liam Payne away following his death aged 31.

The star was pronounced dead after falling from a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina overnight.

He had recently been in Argentina to attend the concert of former bandmate Niall Horan, posting pictures together backstage and interacting with fans.

Local police said the singer fell from the third floor into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel after he’d reportedly ‘been acting erratically in the lobby’ and ‘had to be carried back to his room’.

The hotel manager made two calls to the emergency services, with audio released of both.

In the first the manager is heard saying: ‘We have a guest who is destroying everything in his room. We need someone to come.’

He then phoned back repeating his request and warning: ‘I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger.

‘The room has a balcony, and we are afraid he might do something.’

He added: ‘We need you to send someone urgently because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger.

‘They must be in a room that has a balcony. And well, we’re a little bit worried he’ll do something, that he’ll put his life at risk.’

Payne was found dead at the hotel around 5pm local time (9pm UK time) when police arrived.

Alberto Crescenti, head of the Buenos Aires medical emergency services SAME, later told the television channel TN: ‘Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life.’

Payne’s cause of death has not yet been confirmed as they are awaiting autopsy results.

‘However, based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death,’ Crescenti added.
