Alan Shearer has staggering net worth that puts BBC's highest paid Gary Lineker in shade

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker will both be on TV screens this weekend as they present the BBC’s coverage of the FA Cup – but how much are the dynamic duo actually worth?

They have formed the perfect striker partnership in broadcasting, but Alan Shearer’s net worth actually dwarfs Gary Lineker. While the pair did not play alongside each other on the pitch often, they – along with Micah Richards – have the perfect chemistry and understanding when in front of a camera or microphone.

Lineker, 64, is normally the one putting the questions to Shearer, 54, on the Match of the Day sofa. But with Lineker stepping down from presenting duties on the BBC show at the end of the Premier League campaign, fans don’t have long left to enjoy the pair on their TV screens. However, Lineker will continue to present the FA Cup for the broadcaster next season, as well as the 2026 World Cup.

But, while Lineker is the one directing and moving the conversation forward, Shearer boasts the bigger bank account. Mirror Football takes a look at their respective net-worths.

Predictably, a large portion of both players’ wealth has been amassed throughout their hugely successful football careers. Lineker and Shearer made hundreds of appearances playing for Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Newcastle United respectively.

Yet, the pair have also grown their wealth in the world of business. Lineker is understood to have a net worth of £30million. A large portion derives from his salary at the BBC, which, according to the BBC’s accounts for 2023-2024, was between £1.3m and £1,354,999.

Lineker’s salary was almost £1m more than what Shearer earned (£380,000), albeit the latter is mainly a pundit rather than a host of the show. The huge difference in salary has not stopped the Magpies hero from commanding a net worth of around £40m, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

As well as his salary with the BBC, Shearer has also appeared as a pundit and co-commentator for the likes of Amazon Prime and Al-Jazeera. He is also an investor in the fitness company Speedflex.

Shearer invested in the company shortly after being sacked as manager of Newcastle United and is now a company director. According to Company Check, the company has a net worth of around £13.6m.

Meanwhile, Lineker also has his fingers in plenty of lucrative pies. As well as his broadcasting career, Lineker also owns a podcast media company called ‘Goalhanger’, which he set up in 2014 alongside ex-ITV controller Tony Pastor.

His podcast, ‘the Rest is Football‘ which he hosts with Shearer and Richards, while also inviting the occasional guest, is one of many audio shows his company produces. They also stream ‘the Rest is Politics’ and ‘the Rest is History’ which have become hugely popular series in the UK.

The company’s accounts as of May 31st 2024 boasted a net worth of around £1.9m, as well as further cash in the bank of approximately £2.7m. Lineker is also still working with crisp brand ‘Walkers’ who he signed for in 1995, initially signing a £200,000 contract.

In 2020, he put pen to paper on a £1.2m contract with the company, which actually enabled him to appear in less adverts, but make more ambassadorial appearances and take part in schemes aimed at Grassroots sports and plastic consumption.
