In a Valentine’s Day gesture, some of the UK’s most beloved tourist spots were treated to a visit from giant six-foot Love Heart sweets.
These enormous versions of the well-known treats made their way to various landmarks throughout Wales and the South West, each bearing a unique message.
Smeaton’s Tower in Plymouth was graced with a Love Heart declaring ‘You Shine’, while Cardiff Castle received one that read ‘For Keeps’.
Accompanying these grand romantic symbols was an enigmatic love letter, filled with praise for the landmarks and the dedicated individuals who maintain them, alongside their significance to the local area.
The letter, which began “To Wales and the South West on Valentine’s Day,” shared a fondness for the region’s breathtaking scenery and acknowledged the crucial contribution of its tourism sector to the community.
Great Western Railway masterminded this grandiose display of affection. GWR’s spokesperson, Amanda Burns, remarked: “We know just how much work and effort is put in by our tourism partners, so we wanted to share our love for them and reaffirm our promise to keep connecting people to their wonders.”
GWR’s ‘love letter’ continued: “We just can’t keep it in any longer. We love you. Truly, madly, deeply… How could we not? You are breathtakingly beautiful. Your rolling hills, golden beaches, wild moors, and ancient towns and cities stir hearts and minds.
“It’s not just your beauty that has us smitten it’s what you do. You are the beating heart of tourism and leisure, where visitors come to escape and explore the extraordinary.
“You create jobs, fuel local businesses, and unite communities you make this region irresistible.”
In addition, Love Hearts were personally delivered to the SS Great Britain in Bristol, affectionately known as ‘Steamy’, and to Oxford Castle and Prison, charmingly referred to as a ‘Heart Stealer’.
Sarah-Louise Heslop from Swizzels, the confectionery company behind Love Hearts, partnered with GWR for this Valentine’s campaign. She expressed: “We are excited to see visitors to the British landmarks sharing photos with the iconic Love Hearts and their fun messages.
“Love Hearts have been made in the UK for over 70 years, and they remain the perfect way to ‘Share the Love'”
This Valentine’s Day, love was truly in the air, all thanks to Wales, the South West, and a very sweet gesture.
