BBC Radio presenter Andy Ball has died, it was confirmed on Monday.

Tributes quickly poured in after it was announced that the BBC Merseyside host sadly passed away after 30 years on air.

His cause of death currently remains unknown. 

In a statement, BBC Merseyside said: ‘We’re sad to have to tell you that our friend and Colleague Andy Ball has passed away.

‘Andy worked for BBC Merseyside for nearly 30 years as a Presenter, reporter and part of the management team.

‘He loved the river and enjoyed nothing more than getting out into the communities right across the whole of Merseyside.

‘We will miss him dearly and send all our love and condolences to his wife Lynn and family.’

Following the news, fans rushed to the comments to express their sadness.

Some wrote: ‘Such sad news…..and quite a shock. Andy was always good to listen to and a true gentleman. My condolences to Lynn, and Andy’s family, friends and colleagues. May he rest in peace’.

‘Very sad news, an excellent all round broadcaster, condolences to his family, colleagues and friends’,

Alongside the statement from BBC Merseyside on Facebook was a collage of photos taken of Andy.

On the pictures, BBC Merseyside wrote: ‘1963-2025’.

He started his career in local newspapers in Wirral before turning to radio. He was promoted to the role of Radio Merseyside's news editor in 2005

He previously said during his Saturday shows: ‘I know many people still have to work on a Saturday, but somehow the feel of the day is different to the hurley-burley of weekdays, so I hope to wind down the pace a little, while still supplying information to help people make the most of their weekend.’

Andy also took part in special event coverage on BBC Merseyside, such as for the 2012 Sea Odyssey Festival in Liverpool.
