An audience member nearly suffered a ‘heart attack’ after the stunts in the upcoming Mission: Impossible movie became too much.
Tom Cruise is set to return as Ethan Hunt for the eighth movie in the action franchise later this year, which is now titled The Final Reckoning after a slight name change.
The 62-year-old’s latest blockbuster outing is said to have cost around $400million to make, with the trailer showing him taking on some death-defying stunts.
Although we still have a while to go until we’re hiding behind our popcorn while watching those eye-watering moments, it seems as though one film fan got a little bit too stressed during an early screening.
During an interview with Empire Magazine, via GamesRadar, director Christopher McQuarrie reportedly recalled attending the screening – where someone was left ‘suffocating’.
‘We had a small screening and someone said, “I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack,”’ he said.
‘And I thought, “I guess we did something right.”’
If that wasn’t enough, Christopher also teased that the upcoming flick also features ‘the most difficult thing’ that production – and Tom – have ever filmed in the entire series so far.
Considering we’ve seen the Top Gun legend doing his own stunts and hanging off planes, dangling on a wire and scuba diving, we have absolutely no idea where the Final Reckoning could possibly take him next.
In the recent trailer, a cryptic voiceover announced: ‘Everything you were, everything you’ve done, has come to this.
‘The mission falls to him, should he choose to accept.’
At one point in the adrenaline-filled teaser, Ethan is warned: ‘Now the fate of every living soul on earth is your responsibility.’
Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, Angella Bassett will be returning to the fold alongside the Oscar-nominee, while Hannah Waddingham and Nick Offerman lead the new additions.
The Final Reckoning comes after the seventh instalment, Dead Reckoning, hit the big screen in 2023, grossing $571million at the global box office.
Although it didn’t quite make the splash that Tom and co intended, fans and critics still raved about the sequel.
The movie is sitting pretty on a very impressive 96% rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, and the studio will no doubt be looking to go out with a bang.
In fact, it currently boasts an impressive 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassing many others in the franchise, including Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible 3.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be released in cinemas on May 23.
