Looking at the games that will be released in 2025, it’s already shaping up to be a stellar year, and that’s not accounting for the stuff we don’t know about.
The year when Grand Theft Auto VI was set to be released was always going to be one of the biggest ones. And that’s most likely what game is going to be the biggest tentpole release of 2025, with the very long-awaited sequel set to release next year. We may not know much about it, outside of a small teaser parodying plenty of famous internet videos, but the calibre and what GTA games mean to video games mean it will be massive no matter what the game turns out to be.
Between Avowed, Fable, South of Midnight and more, it could be a year for Xbox’s first-party games to kick off. But that isn’t to say there won’t be any competition from Sony with Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Ghost of Yotei, Phantom Blade Zero, and who knows what else up both companies’ sleeves. But it’s Nintendo who will be looking for it to be their biggest year in a long time, with the Nintendo Switch successor set to be revealed and then released in 2025, with some games still backed up to release on Switch, and presumably, also its successor in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokemon Legends Z-A and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam.
Here are all the major video games that will be released in 2025, paired with some smaller games we’re keeping our eyes on.
