Popular video game streamer faces backlash after claiming job is way harder than any ‘9-5’ gig – New York Post

Here’s one comment that didn’t get a lot of likes.

A well-known video game streamer went the wrong kind of viral over the controversial claim that his chosen profession is more challenging than any conventional job.

“Streaming is wayyyyyy harder than a 9-5. [I don’t care], be mad about it,” user @WhoDontai said on X, in a post that drew swift and considerable backlash.

The man with almost two million Twitch followers found himself subjected to the ire of working stiffs who weren’t happy with the inflammatory remark.

But there was more to come — the cyber celeb proceeded to challenge X users to name a more difficult job in a separate post.

When one suggested neurosurgeon, the gamer retorted, “Bro never played Operation? Not that hard.”

He went on to compare serving in the military to playing “Call of Duty.”

His critics weren’t having it.

Many quickly rattled off jobs that are easily considered more difficult than streaming — like neurosurgery. Arsenii – stock.adobe.com

“Playing games and reacting to videos is hard?” one scoffed.

“I want one of you streamers to do 1 week full of 8 hour shifts, strictly based on pure physical labor and then come back to me,” another wrote.

One more speculated that the majority of content creators “will not able tolerate digging up [piles] of animal s–t” like farmers must.

“You’re privileged,” an exasperated onlooker replied. “We don’t wan[t] [to] hear about the [woes] of sitting in your room screaming and laughing for hours.”

After baiting his audience for a time, the provocateur posted that most of the outlandish commentary “was not serious.”

However, he wrote, viewers should understand that the seemingly enviable gig is not as easy as it looks.

“You’ve never even streamed a day in your life. Don’t speak on something you never experienced,” he scoffed.

One user backed up the sentiment.

“Editing, staying consistent & confident when things aren’t looking too good, having thick skin cause people can be horrible for no reason, taking a risk financially, having random strangers either treat you like God or look at you like you’re the devil….I can see it.”

The recent kerfuffle plays into a recent trend that has spotlighted Gen Z workers’ disillusionment with routine 9-to-5 employment.

Influencers have created video series on managing ordinary responsibilities that come with a standardized job while others have emotional breakdowns.

On the other side of the aisle, there are young influencers who seem to sympathize with the stressed streamer’s views on the challenges that come with those careers.

They are moving back to 9-to-5 roles.
